Joseph Sharpe was born on 22 November 1753 at Cecil Co, Maryland. He was the son of Thomas Sharpe Jr and Elizabeth Gillespie. Joseph Sharpe married Jean Sloan, daughter of Archibald Sloan and Rebecca Guy, on 8 January 1778. Joseph Sharpe died on 15 April 1842 at Iredell Co, North Carolina, at age 88. He was buried at Snow Creek Methodist Church Cemetery, Iredell Co, North Carolina.
Joseph Sharpe also served during the Revolution and became a Captain. For his service, he received large grants of land in both Iredell County and Alexander County. The grants were for the use of his iron works on Rocky Creek.
