A newspaper report tells that Carl Cloer, young son of Robert Cloer of Chambersburg, accidently shot himself. He picked up the gun by the muzzle and the hammer struck something and the gun discharged, taking of the thumb of his right hand and effecting his mouth and face. His wounds, were "quite serious".1 As of 1991, Carl A. Cloer was also known as A. Carl Cloer gravestone inscription.
