     Heman Patterson was born on 14 August 1855. He was the son of Reuben Patterson and Elizabeth Phillips. Heman Patterson married Carrie Emma Spaulding, daughter of George Spaulding and Caroline Collins, on 22 February 1886 at Sibley, Osceola Co, Iowa.1 Heman Patterson died on 8 June 1927 at Greenfield, Adair Co, Iowa, at age 71; He was in ill health for two years nd confined to his room for two months. He spent his early life in New York, Vermont, and east Iowa at Muscatine. He moved to Adair Co. in the spring of 1920. He married Carrie Emma Spaulding. They had seven children and four grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Methodist church.2,3 He was buried on 10 June 1927 at Sibley, Osceola Co, Iowa.2,4
     He appeared on the census of 1910 at Holman, Osceola Co, Iowa; Himan Patterson, 59, b. CE, Carrie, 49, b. NY, "Bissie", 23, Elmer, 22, Hubert, 18, Carl, 12, and Henry, 7. All children were born in Iowa. Heman and Carrie had been married 24 years, had seven children, with six living. Heman's year of immigration was listed as 1870.This group family photo was probably taken a year or so before the census was taken.5
