     Augustus Smith was born on 24 March 1845 at Massachusetts; He was a member of Company I, 5th Mass. Infantry, Co. M, 21st Mass. H.A.1,2 He married Diantha Lucelia Smith, daughter of Daniel Bateman Smith and Susan Tryon, in 1868.1,2 Augustus Smith died on 8 October 1927 at New York at age 82.1 He was buried at Moira Community Cemetery, Moira, Franklin Co, New York.3
