David Leland Covey was born on 9 June 1915 at Swanton, Franklin Co, Vermont.1,2 He was the son of Miles Covey and Anna G. Bertrand.1 David Leland Covey married Luella Martin.2 David Leland Covey died on 18 January 2006 at Saint Albans, Franklin Co, Vermont, at age 90; SWANTON VILLAGE - David Leland Covey, 90, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community, died early Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.
Born in Swanton on June 9, 1915, he was the son of the late Miles and Annie (Bertrand) Covey. He attended schools in Swanton and on May 26, 1938, married the former Luella Martin, who survives him.
In 1942, Mr. Covey became associated with the former Central Vermont Railroad working his way up from the fireman?s position to engineer during an era of vast technological change and progression. He retired when the railroad closed on Sept. 30, 1975, after 33 years of service. He was a member of the BLE Division 330 of St. Albans. Besides his many responsibilities with the railroad he remodeled his home on River Lane and enjoyed ceramics and in earlier years spent time hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife Luella of nearly 68 years, Mr. Covey leaves a daughter, Lila Buker of Enfield, Conn; three grandchildren: Robert Belrose and his wife, Andrea of Ellington, Conn., Steven Buker of Enfield, Conn. and Darcie Chaput and her husband, Roger also of Enfield, Conn; four great-grandchildren: Jennifer Belrose of Willington, Conn., Steven Buker, Jr. and his wife Tina of Enfield, Conn., Robert Buker of Brattleboro, Vt. and David Holden of Manchester, Conn; a great-great-grandchild, Vincent Buker; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Gently of Campton, N.H; nieces and nephews: Judith and Gerard Lafreniere of Wolcott, Conn., Ramona and Keith McGillan of Plymouth, Conn., David Morrissette of Torrington, Conn., Carol and Frank Mercier of Torrington, Conn., Margaret and Sargent Catherall of Clifton Park, N.Y., Irene and Louie Shappy of St. Albans; and many great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are very good friends and extended family members, Mark and Candy Thomas of Swanton and George and Patty Britch of Highgate.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Roland Ludlam, pastor of Church of the Rock will officiate. Interment will follow in the Covey family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening, Jan. 20, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m.
