     John Covey was born on 31 July 1881 at Franklin Co, New York.2,1 He was the son of Albert Irvine Covey and Isabella Cornan.1 John Covey was baptized on 15 August 1881 at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Chateaugay, Franklin Co, New York.2 He died on 12 February 1901 at Malone, Franklin Co, New York, at age 19; His obituary mentions that he was just 19, and highly respected by the 27th Separate Co., of the National Guard. He was due to graduate from Franklin Academy in the Spring, an event to which his family was looking forward to with great anticipation. He was noted as an athlete, a member of the Olympian Society.3 He was buried on 16 February 1901 at Morningside Cemetery, Malone, Franklin Co, New York; John's funeral was held at the Baptist Church and the entire 27th company attended in full uniform accompanied the hearse to the cemetery,with six of its members serving as pallbearers.4
