John Salls Curtis

     John Salls Curtis was born circa 1824 at Canada.¹ He was the son of Daniel Curtis and Rebecca Salls. John Salls Curtis married Elizabeth Tryon, daughter of David Tryon Jr and Jane Crawford, on 17 September 1848 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.² John Salls Curtis died on 25 December 1908 at Marcellus, Cass Co, Michigan; His death certificate lists his parents as Daniel Curtis and Rebecca Sauls.¹
     He appeared on the census of 21 July 1860 at Stockholm, St Lawrence Co, New York; John S. Curtis, 35, Elisabeth, 27, both b. Canada, Mary, 10, Edwin S., 7 and Sarah L., 5, all b. NY.³ He appeared on the census of 4 August 1870 at Marcellus, Cass Co, Michigan; John Curtis, 46, born Canada, Elizabeth, 41, born Canada, Mary, 20, Edwin, 17, Sarah, 15, Ella, 12, all born New York.⁴ He appeared on the census of 1880 at Marcellus, Cass Co, Michigan; John S. Curtis, 56, born Canada, farmer, both parents born Canada; Elizabeth, his wife, 52, born Canada, father born CT, mother born Canada, along with daughter Ellie, 21, born New York.⁵ He appeared on the census of 1900 at Marcellus, Cass Co, Michigan; John was aged 75 years old and living in the household of his widowed daughter, Sarah Draper, and her daughter, Gertie B., 19, b. Michigan.⁶
