Daniel Curtis was born on 28 June 1848 at Stockholm, St Lawrence Co, New York; Brookdale Cemetery records. He was the son of Daniel Curtis and Rebecca Salls. Daniel Curtis died on 30 April 1888 at Webster, Worcester Co, Massachusetts, at age 39; " On Monday forenoon, April 30th, Daniel H. Curtis , engineer on the Boston & Albany Webster branch railroad, died of pneumonia at his home on Oxford Ave, Webster. Mr. Curtis was born in North Stockholm, NY, and was 39 years of age. He began work for the Boston & Albany railroad in 1870, firing bnetween Worcester and Springfield. He was afterward engineer on a Springfield freight. During February, 1885, Mr. Curtis was ill with pneumonia, and it was the same lung which the disease causing his death attacked.
Mr. Curtis leaves a widow and three small children , two girls and a boy aged 6, 4 and 2 years.
He belonged to the Masonic and Odd Fellows' lodges in Worcester, having joined the IOOF May 31, 1876. On the 23d of April he took the 2:15 PM train for Worceter, as usual, but was too ill to act as engineer on the return trip...
The funeral services were held at Mr Curtis' late home on Tuesday afternoon. A delegation of Odd Fellows were present from the Worcester lodge. The employees of the branch road went to the house in a body and viewed the remains of their fellow-workman. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. They included a pillow marked "172" the number of Mr C's engine...
The remains were sent over the Worcester and Nashhua railroad at 6:25 PM, accompanied by the family, to North Stockholm, NY, where the interment took place. Engine No. 172 was appropriately draped and will remain so for a week. Mr. Curtis was known and liked everywhere for his generous and jovial nature, and he leaves a host of friends to mourn the fact that the kind engineer has made his last trip...."1 He was buried on 1 May 1888 at Brookdale, St Lawrence Co, New York.1
