     Amasa Gay Grandy was born on 1 January 1823 at Norfolk, St Lawrence Co, New York; His obituary mentions he was aged 62 years, 11 months and 21 days old when he died.1,2 He was the son of Jonathan Grandy and Persis Gay. Amasa Gay Grandy married Sarah Jane Curtis, daughter of Daniel Curtis and Rebecca Salls, on 10 March 1859. Amasa Gay Grandy died on 24 December 1885 at Norfolk, St Lawrence Co, New York, at age 62; Amasa had been married three times, and left his wife, Mrs. Mary Palmerter from Stockholm behind.
He had first lived for 21 years on his father's farm in Norfolk, before heading to Boston to work as a fireman with the railroad. Then lived in Norwich, Connecticut, before moving to Worcester, Massachusetts, and later moving to Brookdale, which adjoined his native town, where he was to remain. Amasa Grandy was a respected member of the community and of the Methodist Episcopal church.1,2 He was buried at Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk, St Lawrence Co, New York.
     He appeared on the census of 3 August 1870 at Worcester, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; Amasa G., 47, Engineer, b. NY; Sarah J., 47, b. Canada; Ida, 17, b. MA; Rebecca, 14, NY; Nancy, 10, b. CT; Benjamin D. Curtis, 25 and Daniel Curtis, 23, both b. NY, worked for the RR and (?) Wheaton, 19, telegraph operator.3
