Lydia Branch
F, b. circa 1800, d. after 1875
Lydia Branch was born circa 1800 at Vermont.1 She married Henry Salls, son of Isaac Salls and Elizabeth Crawford, on 19 September 1824 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 Lydia Branch died after 1875 at Essex Co, New York; She was still living on 17 Jun 1875 in Westport, when the 1875 state census was taken. She was then listed as aged 71 yrs.
On the 28th of August in 1842, Mariette Branch, wife of Calvin Dean was buried. Her sister, Lydia Salls was present. This may offer help for Branch researchers.
The 1860 census of Westport, Essex Co, New York shows Lydia Salls, aged 55, born VT, living with her son Ami, a furnace man then aged 17. They lived next to William Henry Salls, and his wife and family.
While right now I have this Lydia as the wife of Henry Salls, I really suspect that she was the wife of Stephen Hix Salls. Since she was living next to William Henry Salls, I suspect she was his mother. That makes sense in that Dr. Carroll Salls' book shows Stephen Hix Salls having only one son, William Henry. Joseph Ami was said to have been born 1 May 1842, which is certainly after Stephen Hix' death in January 1841, but I wonder if Ami's birth was actually May of 1841. More information is needed on the family of Lydia.3 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1865 at Westport, Essex Co, New York; Lydia, 61, was mother to seven children.1 She appeared on the census of 23 June 1870 at Westport, Essex Co, New York; Lydia Salls, aged 65, born Vermont, was keeping house for her son Oliver, aged 30.4
