     Daniel Smith was born in 1813 at Caldwell's Manor, Quebec.2 He was the son of Arthur Smith and Rachel Salls.1 Daniel Smith was baptized on 30 November 1820 at Notre Dame de Montreal, Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec.2 He married Mary Spalding, daughter of John Spalding and Mary Wheeler, on 19 May 1835 at Notre Dame de Montreal, Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec.3 Daniel Smith died in 1873 at St Andrew's Presbyterian, Montreal, Montreal Co, Quebec.
     He appeared on the census of 1851; Wm John Spalding, Catholic, widow, 73, Mary Spalding, 36, Suzanne Spaldiing, 34, and husband Daniel Smith, 34, Anna, 12, Eliza, 4, and John Thomas, 10.4
