Ella L. Smith

     Ella L. Smith was born circa 1861 at Franklin Co, New York.¹ She was the daughter of Oliver Smith and Adelaide V. Stevenson.¹ Ella L. Smith married John L. Bowditch in 1883 at Franklin Co, New York.^2,3 Ella L. Smith died on 8 March 1933 at Shelter Island Heights, Suffolk Co, New York; Ella had graduated for Oswego Normal School. After that she had taught school at Chateaugay Academy when Henry W. Hill was Principal. After marriage in 1883, she moved to Shelter Island Heights where she has since resided. She was survived by six children: Mrs. Sybil Brewster of Bay Shore, LI; Mrs. Kathryn Jennings of Brooklyn; John of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Jean Clark, Mrs Edith Reeves and Miss Belle Bowditch of Shelter Island Heights. Also one sister, Mrs. F.C. Card of Tulsa, OK, and two brothers, Eli B. Smith of Grand Junction, Colorado and Henry B. Smith of Chateaugay.³ She was buried on 10 March 1933 at Shelter Island Heights, Suffolk Co, New York.³
     She appeared on the census of 7 January 1920 at Shelter Island, Suffolk Co, New York; Ella S. Bowditch, 58, widow, along with Edith, 24, and Belle, 23.⁴
