Nathan Milbury1

M, b. circa 1796, d. 10 February 1883
     Nathan Milbury was born circa 1796 at Massachusetts.2 He married Margery Squires, daughter of Jabesh Caleb Squires and Martha Hammond, on 7 November 1820 at Fredericton, York Co, New Brunswick.3,1 Nathan Milbury died on 10 February 1883 at Wicklow, Carleton Co, New Brunswick; d. 10th inst., at his residence, Wicklow Parish (Carleton Co.) Deacon Nathen MILBURY, one of the pioneers of Carleton Co. passed away to his reward in 87th year of his age, leaving an aged widow, four sons and two daughters, together with a number of grandchildren. Brother Milbury was born in the State of Massachusetts, and as near as is known, in the town of Salem where he lived until somewhere between 20 and 23 years of age. He then came to St. Stephen (Charlotte Co.) and residing there a short time, came to the river St. John and subsequently settled in Wicklow Parish, and shortly after married a daughter of late Jabez SQUIRES. When he settled at Wicklow the whole country was almost one unbroken forest and he lived to see it become a fruitful field. Shortly after his settlement here, he was brought under the power of the Gospel to embrace religion and was baptized, by whom is not known; he united with the Free Baptist Church and was chosen one of its Deacons and as the country was new and Ministers scarce. Brother Milbury and late Brother Murphy GIBERSON and Brother Holland ESTEY united in holding up the worship of God in the neighborhood. Brother Milbury was one of the first to start a Temperance Society. The funeral sermon was preached by the writer, John Perry.2,4 He was buried at Lower Wicklow Cemetery, Wicklow, Carleton Co, New Brunswick.4
