     John Hainsworth was born circa 1851 at Spa Street, Holbeck, Yorks, England.^3,4 He was the son of James Hainsworth and Mary (?).² John Hainsworth married Mary Ann Dean, daughter of James Dean and Sarah Munday, on 12 October 1873 at Holbeck, Yorks, England; John Hainsworth was a smith and his father John, was a grocer.¹ John Hainsworth married Mary Ann (?) circa 1883 at Yorks, England; It is likely his second wife was either Mary Ann Sykes or Mary Ann Clegg.^4,5 John Hainsworth died in December 1916 at Leeds, Yorks, England.⁶
     He appeared on the census of 1861 at Holbeck, Yorks, England; There were other John Hainsworths in the area, but Mary Hannah Hainsworth, his sister, was with him here,and she was also with him in 1881 with his daughter Rhoda as a widow.³ He appeared on the census of 1881 at 36 Spa Street, Holbeck, Yorks, England; John Hainsworth, wid, 30, was living with his mother Mary, 67, grocer, in Holbeck, along with sister Mary Hannah, 31, and his daughter Rhoda, aged 4, b. Hunslet.⁷ He appeared on the census of 1901 at Holbeck, Yorks, England; John Hainsworth, 50, Mary Ann, 45, Rhoda, 24, Thornton, 15, iron moulder, and John, 1, grandson. This writer assumes that the grandson John, is the son of Rhoda.⁵ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 2 Stocks Hill, Holbeck, Yorks, England; John Hainsworth, 60, Labour in Engine Works for Bayne Engine ; Mary Ann, 56; They had been married 28 years; Thornton, 25, Core Maker Iron Foundry for Wellhouse Foundry; and lodger Wright Stater, 41.⁴
