Ermengarde was born circa 893; For many years, she has been believed to have been the daughter of Duke Richard "the Justiciar" of Burgundy; however, recent researchers have cast doubts upon that claim.
This affiliation has been challenged, in particular because she is not mentioned in her supposed mother's will. In addition, if it is correct that Giselbert's mother was the daughter of King Boson , she would have been her husband's first cousin, which seems unlikely to have been accepted by the church. She married Giselbert, son of Manasses I de Chalon and Ermengarde de Bourgogne. Ermengarde died before April 935.
