     John M. Covey was born on 18 September 1798 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.1 He was the son of Samuel Covey and Anna Susannah Mitchell. John M. Covey married Elizabeth Gale, daughter of John Gale and Elizabeth (?). John M. Covey married Jennett Curry. John M. Covey died on 20 August 1881 at Howard Co, Iowa, at age 82.1,2 He was buried at New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco, Howard Co, Iowa.1
     He appeared on the census of 14 June 1860 at Bombay, Franklin Co, New York.3 He appeared on the census of 29 July 1870 at Mendon, Clayton Co, Iowa; John Covey, 71, blacksmith, wife Jeanette, 61, b. Canada, along with son John Jr., 37, wife Miranda, 36, Hattie, 14, Edna, 12, Carrie, 10, and Cora, 6.2 He appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 at Vernon Springs, Howard Co, Iowa; John M. Covey, 81 wife Jeanette, 71 were living with their son R.J. Covey.4
