Julia Caroline Salls was born on 30 November 1824 at Quebec.2,3 She was the daughter of Samuel Salls and Sarah Butler.1 Julia Caroline Salls married Ervin Jones.4 Julia Caroline Salls married Hosea H. Julia Caroline Sails, widow of the late Hosea H. Pierce died at her home, Court Street, this village. Saturday evening, aged 84 years, 2 months and 13 days. Mrs. Pierce was nearly a life long resident of this village and had many many warm friends who will hear of her death with sorrow. She was a woman of splendid Christian virtues and many of the university students who made their home with her have warm recollections of the motherly woman who rejoiced with them in their successes and consoled them in their trials and hardships. The writer was "one of her boys," having lived with her during hits course in college and these years were the best of his life and the home she made was a home indeed.
For the past few years Mrs. Pierce has been in feeble health and her death comes in the course of nature, a debt which we all must pay. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon and the remains were taken to Waterville, N. Y., for cremation. Later they will be brought back to the to the North Country and placed in the family plot.
Two daughters survive, Miss Inez A. Jones, for many years principal of one of the Brooklyn Schools and Mrs. Charles O. Twombly of Herkimer, NY.1 She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Canton, St Lawrence Co, New York.1
