John I Count of Holland

John I Count of Holland was born circa 1284; Shortly after his birth, after negotiations between his father, Count Floris V and King Edward of England in April 1255, he was betrothed to princess Elizabeth of England. He was very soon sent to England to be educated there at her father's court, Edward I.1 He married Princess (?) Elizabeth of England, daughter of King Edward I and Eleanor of Castile, on 7 January 1297 at Ipswich, England; Elizabeth was expected to go back to Holland after marriage, but she didn't wish to go. After spending Christmas 1297 with part of her family, she did end up joining her husband in Holland in 1298.1 John I Count of Holland died on 10 November 1299 at Haarlem, Holland; He was said to have died of dysentary at age 15, but there were rumors that he had been murdered.1
