De Braose was born between 1197 and 1204 at
Brecon, Powys, Wales; The Welsh, who detested him as well as the family name, called him
Gwilym Ddu, or Black William.

Reginald De Braose.
2 William De Braose married
Eva Marshal, daughter of
Sir William Marshal 1st Earl of Pembroke, before 1221 at
Wales.
4 William De Braose died on 2 May 1230 at
possibly Crogen, Wales; Lord Llywelyn had him hanged after he been caught in Llywelyn's chamber with the King of England's daughter, Joan, Llywelyn's wife. Joan was put under house arrest for a year.
