Gilbert Yearns Covey was born on 29 March 1817 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He was the son of Archibald Covey and Susanna Hall. Gilbert Yearns Covey was baptized on 1 June 1821 at Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 He married Julia A. Currier, daughter of Louis Cayez and Angele Gauthier, on 13 January 1845 at Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke Co, Quebec; Cathedral of St Michel. Gilbert Yearns Covey died on 7 May 1887 at Methuen, Essex Co, Massachusetts, at age 70.2
He appeared on the census of 15 July 1870 at Methuen, Essex Co, Massachusetts; Gilbert, aged 54, farm laborer, born NY, and his wife Julia Ann, aged 42, born Canada. At that time, he had children, John, Ira, Alvin and Lois Jane, with him. He also had living with him Joseph Cookson and wife Mariah born ca 1848, who married in October. It is likley that Mariah is the Julienne Marie b. ca 1848.3 He appeared on the census of 1880 at Methuen, Essex Co, Massachusetts; Gilbert, aged 66, born VT, along with wife Julia, 55, b. Canada, and Louisa, daughter, aged 12, also born Canada.4 "Gilbert Y. Covey died Saturday, May 7, at the age of 72 years, from the effects of a fall, May 2, in the barn of Mr. Sylvester Blodgett." - Lawrence Daily Eagle.
According to Carol Blakslee (e-mail [email protected]), the family removed to the area of Methuen and Haverhill, in Massachusetts about 1863. Two of the children, Alvin Jerome and Ira, went to Montana. Ira supposedly later removed to Seattle. Emil, Arthur and John were said to have remained in Massachusetts.5
