John Covey was born on 17 September 1847 at Quebec.1 He was the son of Daniel Miles Covey and Mary (?). John Covey married Melissa Covey. John Covey died on 30 September 1921 at Gananoque, Leeds Co, Ontario, at age 74; OBITUARY: The death occurred yesterday morning of John Covey, a well known and esteemed farmer, who has resided just west of the town limits, on what is known as the Covey Road, for the past forty years. Deceased was in his 78th year. He had been in failing health for some time. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Israel Keyes, and Misses Laura and Ethel Covey, all residing here. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m.
FUNERAL: The Late John Covey whose death occurred on September 30, was born September 1845, near the boundary where a battle was fought against the Fenian raiders. Forty years ago he and Miss Melissa Covey were united in marriage in Cape Vincent, N. Y. and settled on the present farm - the first outside the bounds of Gananoque. For ten years he had poor health, the last four months being confined to bed through hardening of the arteries. The marriage was blest by a son who passed away in childhood and Mrs. Israel Keyes in town, and Mrs. Laura and Ethel at home. His Nephew, George, has assisted on the farm for years. Mr. Covey was a genial, honest Christian, a man to be fully trusted. Friends near and far contributed cards and flowers to the funeral, that was attended by a very large number. Service was conducted by Rev. W. Henderson, assisted by singers of Grace Church, and the remains were laid in the family lot in Willowbank Cemetery in sure and certain hope.2,3 He was buried on 2 October 1921 at Willowbank Cemetery, Gananoque, Leeds Co, Ontario.
He appeared on the census of 1881 at Leeds Front, Leeds (South) Co, Ontario; John Covey, 33, Melissa, 27, Edna Blanche, 2, Laury, 6/12 (born Oct), and Francis Allen (female), 12. All born Ontario and C. Methodist.4
