Timothy Lewis was born on 25 July 1727 at Harwich, Barnstable Co, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Lewis Jr. and Mary/Mercy Hopkins. Timothy Lewis married Sarah Austin circa 1751. Timothy Lewis died on 1 April 1818 at Bennington Co, Vermont, at age 90. He was buried at Sunderland, Bennington Co, Vermont.
In 1754, Timothy Lewis and his wife Sarah were members of the Third Church (aka Scotland Church) in Windham, Connecticut. The record of the births of his first six children appears to have been made about 1760 or possibly 1761, and the seventh child was recorded later on the same page in a different ink. About 1762, the family removed to what is now Ashfield, Franklin Co, Massachusetts. At the time it was known as Huntstown, Hampshire County and remained so until 1765.
On February 23, 1763 both Timothy and wife Sarah were listed among those members of a new church at Huntstown.
Timothy Lewis was listed in the 1766 assessment of Ashfield as having a a house and 20 acres, one ox, two cows and three swine. He did not have any horses, sheep, mills, goats or slaves. Total assessment was £40.
In 1778, a deed in Franklin County listed both Timothy and his wife Sarah, so Sarah was still living as of August 26th of that year. There were many subsequent deeds following this one, but none mentioned his wife.
Timothy Lewis moved to Sunderland, Bennington County, Vermont between 26 April 1786 and 4 June 1786. The original date comes from a deed of sale between Timothy Lewis of Ashfield to Joshua Wheldon of same. The June date comes from a deed of sale from Robert Averill of Sunderland to Timothy Lewis. He left a will in May 1813; Timothy left daughter Martha Lewis one half of his house and some land, daughter Rebecca Lewis also some land; It would appear that these were the only two daughters still at home unmarried. To Isaac Lewis, Timothy Lewis, Sarah Center, Adnah Clark, Elizabeth Tryall, and Marcy davis, each two dollars, and the remaining property to son John Lewis.
