Walter Gilbert Scott was born on 30 December 1894 at Norwich, Chenango Co, New York.1 He was the son of Warren Arthur Scott and Florence L. Frye.1 Walter Gilbert Scott married Helen Christine (?) circa 1920.2
On 2 June 1917, Walter G. Scott was a resident of Herkimer when he registered for the Draft. He was then employed in Little Falls as a carpenter. Walter was listed as having brown eyes and hair, and was of medium build.3 On 4 June 1917, Walter G. Scott enlisted at the Navy Recruitment Station in Syracuse, NY He was aged 22 yrs and 5 mos, then living at 406 North Maine Street in Herkimer. He was a shipwright for carpenter's mate, 3rd class. That duty was located on a ship in Philadelphia, PA which ended 30 Sep 1917.
From then until 11 Nov 1918 he was stationed at the naval staion in Le Croisic, France, He served 120 days as 3rd class aviation carpenter's mate, then 153 as 2nd class, and then 41 days as 1st class.
He was discharged 13 Aug 1819 in New York, NY.4 Walter Gilbert Scott appeared on the census of 6 January 1920 at Spring Street, Springfield, Hampden Co, Massachusetts; He was a lodger in the house of Katherine Managan and her sisters.5 He appeared on the census of 1921 at Graniteville, Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; Walter Gilbert Scott, 26, b. USA; Helen Christine, 27, also b. USA; Florence Ann, 3 months old, b. Canada.6 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1930 at Elmira, Chemung Co, New York; Walter G. Scott, 34, b. NY; Helen C., 34, B. VT; James M., 17, b. NY; Florence A., 9, b. Canada.2 He appeared on the census of 4 April 1940 at Syracuse, Onondaga Co, New York; "Walter J. Scott" was aged 49, and wife, Helen, aged 40.7
