     Joseph Longeway was born on 2 February 1797 at Quebec.1 He was the son of Remie Longeway and Marie Geneviève Raimond. Joseph Longeway married Deborah Covey, daughter of James Covey and Elizabeth (?), on 21 January 1822 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2 Joseph Longeway died on 26 August 1886 at Tuscola Co, Michigan, at age 89.1 He was buried at Almer Township, Tuscola Co, Michigan.1
     He appeared on the census of 1851 at Hemmingford, Beauharnois Co, Quebec; Joseph Longway, farmer, Methodist, 57, Deborah, 48, Henry, 23, Nancy, 18, Augustus, 15, Betsey, 13, Lydia, 10, George, 7, and Daniel, 5. Enumerated next to John Longway.3 On 13 Jun 1870, Joseph Longeway and his wife, Deborah Covey, of Franklin, made a Donation before Charles Meunier, notary to their son Henry Leonard Longeway, of the same place. The land was in the Township of Hemmingford, now called Franklin. With parcel of land came horses, "milch" cows, one yearling, sheep, one hog, six geese, hens and house furnishings. He will care for them as well as his two sisters, Nancy Jane and Lydia, until they marry. He will also pay to George, Daniel and Sylvester, his brothers sums of money over the course of 15 years. He appeared on the census of 1871 at Franklin Centre, Huntingdon Co, Quebec; Joseph was aged 74 at the time of the 1871 census of Franklin Twp.
