Amanda Hefflin

     Amanda Hefflin was born circa 1825 at Highgate, Franklin Co, Vermont.¹ She was the daughter of William Hefflin and Mahala Davis.¹ Amanda Hefflin married Joseph Perry Jr on 3 December 1841 at Highgate, Franklin Co, Vermont.¹ Amanda Hefflin married Dexter Tallman, son of Humphrey Tallman and Patience Allen, on 18 November 1875 at St Albans, Franklin Co, Vermont; It was this marriage that shows the first evidence of what Humphrey's first wife's name was. And to this time (2014), this writer had believed Dexter to be a son of Sarah Gilfillan.
Dexter was 62 years old and this was his second marriage.¹ Amanda Hefflin died on 20 September 1888 at Highgate, Franklin Co, Vermont; The death certificate lists Amanda as Perry, rather than Tallman. She was aged 67 yrs, 6 mos and 18 days, having died from Bright's disease. But her death in 1888 ties in with Dexter's being alone and entering the Clinton County Poorhouse the following year.^2,3
