James Taylor was born on 11 March 1642/43 at Hawkshead, Ulverston, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Gregory Taylor and Achsa (?). James Taylor married Sarah Newton, daughter of Richard Newton and Anna Loker, circa 1670 at Middlesex Co, Massachusetts. James Taylor died on 11 February 1712/13 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, at age 69.
