     John Riley Covey was born on 8 June 1833 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.1,2 He was the son of John M. Covey and Jennett Curry. John Riley Covey married Miranda M. Williams on 20 November 1854 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont. John Riley Covey died on 25 March 1896 at New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco, Howard Co, Iowa, at age 62.3,2 He was buried at New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco, Howard Co, Iowa.3
     He was military John joined the 18th NY Cavalry Co. E and mustered out at Victoria, Texas. A general affidavit dated December 1881 shows that John R. Covey was then living at Cresco, Howard Co, Iowa, along with his mother Jennett.1 He appeared on the census of after 1 June 1880 at Vernon Springs, Howard Co, Iowa; R.J. Covey, 46, "Gentleman of Science", wife Miranda, 45, Carrie, 20, Cora, 16, and his parents John, 81 and Jeannette, 71.4
