Asa Patterson

     Asa Patterson was born on 21 January 1806 at Pittsford, Monroe Co, New York.¹ He was the son of Hutchinson Patterson and Betsy Stone. Asa Patterson married Jane Barker in March 1832 at Monroe Co, New York.² Asa Patterson died on 12 April 1889 at Monroe, Knox Co, Ohio, at age 83.^3,4
     According to the "History of Knox County, Ohio", Asa Patterson and his wife Jane Barker Patterson remained in Monroe County, New York only until February 1837. They then migrated to Monroe township in Knox County. After living on one farm for about two years, he then moved his family to one on which he had cleared the land, and raised the cabin in August 1839. Here he remained until 1853 when he erected a more permanent frame residence.⁵ He appeared on the census of 7 August 1850 at Monroe, Knox Co, Ohio; Asa Patterson, 44, Jane, 37, Henry, 17, Isabelle, 15, Mary, 13, all born NY; Elenor, 11, Hutchinson, 9, Emily, 6, Aaron, 3, Agnes and Frances, both 1, all born Ohio.⁶ He appeared on the census of 24 June 1870 at Monroe, Knox Co, Ohio; Acy Patterson, 64, born NY, Janet, 55, born NY, Aaron, 23, Agness, 21, Frances, 21 and Ida, 18, all born OH.⁷ He appeared on the census of 4 June 1880 at Pleasant, Knox Co, Ohio; Asa Patterson, 74, wife Jane, 67, Isabelle, 51, Frances, 30, and Agnes, 30.⁴
