     John Roy Salls was born on 6 August 1872 at Fort Covington, Franklin Co, New York. He was the son of Merritt Alonzo Salls and Lydia Maria Young. John Roy Salls married Ann Hiram Chase, daughter of Hiram Chase and Annie Card, on 28 September 1892 at Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; At his marriage, John Salls was 21, a carpenter; Anna was 19, b. New Brunswick. It was a first marriage for both of them and the service was performed by Willard E. Waterbury, Clergyman, Clinton.1 John Roy Salls married Jennie R. Chase on 11 August 1926 at Rockland, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts. John Roy Salls died on 14 February 1928 at Lynn, Essex Co, Massachusetts, at age 55; His obituary mentions, " died Tuesday at the home of his sister, Mrs. F.W. Stuart, 9 Sachem Avenue, after an illness of several months. He was born in Fort Covington, NY and resided for many years in Manchester, NH, and Clinton, but of late made his home in North Abington, until he came to Lynn to live last December. He leaves a wife, Jennie R. Falls [sic] of North Abington, two daughters, Mrs Charles Doherty of Manchester, NH and Miss Dorothy Salls of Worcester, a son Merritt Salls of Bangor, ME..."2 He was buried on 16 February 1928 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.3
     He appeared on the census of 28 April 1910 at Clinton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; John R. Salls, 38, widow, b. NY, Maude, dau, b. NY, 14, Ethel and Merritt, both 10, born MA, and Dorothy, 3/12, b. MA.4 He appeared on the census of 1920 at Manchester, Hillsborough Co, New Hampshire; John R. Salls, 48, born NY, a widow, living with children, Ethel E., 20 and Merritt A., 16, both born Massachusetts.5
