     David Tryon was born on 23 August 1837 at New York.1 He was the son of Benjamin Tryon and Hannah A. Salls. David Tryon married Melinda Jenkins, daughter of Edmond Bliss Jenkins and Deraxy Stickney. David Tryon died on 14 February 1894 at Tupper Lake, Franklin Co, New York, at age 56; The paper carried "The remains of David Tryon, who died here [Tupper Lake] of pneumonia last week, were taken to his old home in Stockholm for burial. We understand that Mrs. Tryon will move to Malone..."2,1,3 He was buried at Brookdale Cemetery, Lot 50, Section A, Row 5, Brookdale, St Lawrence Co, New York.3
     He appeared on the census of 22 August 1870 at Stockholm, St Lawrence Co, New York; David Tryon, 31, Malinda M., 29, Alma E., 7, and Homer E., 5.4 He A notice in the Norwood (NY) News dated 9 Sep 1879 mentions Mrs David Tryon was leaving for Iowa.

According to an obituary for their son, Carroll, David and Melinda moved to South Dakota about 1877 and "lived for ten years in a log cabin. They returned to Brookdale..." before Carroll was twelve, which would have been about 1888.5,6 He appeared on the census of 1880 at Eden, Sac Co, Iowa; David Tryon, 41 wife Melinda, 39, Elmer, 16, Homer, 14, Delbert, 6 and Carroll, 4, all born NY.7

He was The Montana State Office issued 160 acres in Hand County, South Dakota to David Tryon on 13 November 1884. Another 160 acres were issued to him on 29 February 1888.8 He appeared on the census of 1885 at Territorial Census, Ree Heights, Hand Co, South Dakota; David Tryon, 46, Malinda, 40, Elmer E., 22, Homer, 19, Albert, 11, and Carroll, 9, all born New York.9 A listing from Rev. John G. Palmer's "Palmer's Directory of the Methodist Episcopal Church for Dakota Conference - 1888", page 75, shows the family was still in Ree Heights at that time. David and Melinda were listed as members, with Delbert as a probationer. They were still there in 1899, but then all trace was lost.
