     Stillman Lewis Tryon was born circa 1830 at New York. He was the son of Abel Tryon and Sarah Lewis. Stillman Lewis Tryon married Martha Bond circa 1852 at New York. Stillman Lewis Tryon died before 1866 at Minnesota; "...was a veteran of of the Civil War and died from the effects of exposure and hardships endured while aiding in the defense of the old flag."1
     He appeared on the census of 19 December 1860 at Altona, Clinton Co, New York; In 1860, Stillman Tryon and his family were living in Altona, Clinton Co, NY. His brother Myron was also living with them, and both were listed as day laborers.2 Stillman Tryon enlisted on 2 Oct 1861 as a Private from Mooers, New York. He belonged to Company D, New York 96th Infantry Regiment on 21 Nov 1861 and was mustered out at Chaffin's Farm, Virginia on 9 Feb 1865.3
