Stephen Benjamin Tryon

     Stephen Benjamin Tryon was born on 20 July 1841 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of Daniel Tryon Jr. and Amy Almeda Wait. Stephen Benjamin Tryon was baptized on 8 May 1842 at St Armand, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He married Loella M. McCabe, daughter of Arthur McCabe and Ann McCaffery, on 13 April 1874. Stephen Benjamin Tryon died on 25 June 1918 at Magog, Stanstead Co, Quebec, at age 76; Ruth Tryon Curtis wrote: " My grandfather Stephen was a farmer, and for seven years he worked for a miller at Fitch Bay. He knew how to make a broom from silver birch wood. Also made soft soap, of course I watched him as I was 8 or 9 years old."² He was buried on 27 June 1918 at Pine Hill Cemetery, Magog, Stanstead Co, Quebec.³
     He appeared on the census of 1901 at Magog, Stanstead Co, Quebec; Stephen Tryon, 59 (b. 12 Jul 1841) and wife Loella, 46, (b. 10 Jun 1854), living with son: Arthur, 18 (b. 18 Nov 1882); mother, Almeda, 84 (b. 24 Nov 1816). They were living next door to Hiram Tryon and his wife Carrie and daughter, Grace.⁴ He appeared on the census of 1911 at Magog, Stanstead Co, Quebec; Stephen Tryon, 69, Loella, 56, Arthur, 28, Susan, 25, Ruth, 2 and Nelson, 9 mos. They were enumerated next to Hiram and Carrie Tryon.⁵
