Hester Ann Percy was born on 17 July 1853 at N. Burke, Franklin Co, New York; obituary, Pine Poker Pioneer Press (Pine City, MN) 6 Oct 1932.1 She was the daughter of John Percy and Priscilla Tryon. Hester Ann Percy married John Atkinson, son of Thomas Atkinson, on 14 June 1874 at Methodist, Burke, Franklin Co, New York; Hester's age was given as 21, and John was 22.2 Hester Ann Percy died on 29 September 1932 at N. Saint Paul, Ramsey Co, Minnesota, at age 79; obituary, Pine Poker Pioneer Press (Pine City, MN) 6 Oct 1932.3,4
She was buried on 1 October 1932 at Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City, Pine Co, Minnesota.1
Hester and her husband, John Atkinson, went to Kossouth County, Iowa, sometime after the birth of their first son, Charles Percy Atkinson in 1876. The 1880 census shows her as Ester, and her gravestone in Pine City, Minnesota shows her as Hattie.
Sharon Atkinson Madden sent a transcript of Hester's obituary, located in the Pine Poker Pioneer Press (Pine City, MN) dated 6 October 1932:
"Last Rites for Mrs. John Atkinson - Funeral services for Mrs. Hester Atkinson were conducted Sat. afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J.J. Parish from the Methodist Church and the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in Birchwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were J.D. Bogle, D.W. Schofield, Charles Beechel, John D. Wilcox, Knut Sandberg and Erick Sandberg.
Mrs. Hester Ann Atkinson was born 7/17/1853 at N. Burke, NY, the daughter of Mr & Mrs John Percy. She grew to womanhood there and on June 14, 1874, she was united in marriage to John Atkinson. They resided in Quebec until 1878 and then moved to Iowa where they made their home until 1898 when they came to Pine City, Minnesota.
Mrs. Atkinson had made her home with her daughter the past two years. She is survived by one son, Charles Percy Atkinson and one daughter, Mrs. Wooden of N. St Paul, Minnesota. Mrs Atkinson passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Wooden in N. St Paul last Thursday morning, September 29, at the age of 79 years, 2 mos and 12 days. Her illness was about 26 days."1
