Josephus Vaughan was born on 5 September 1733 at Connecticut. He was the son of Benjamin Vaughan and Rose (?). Josephus Vaughan married Rebecca Towner, daughter of Samuel Towner and Amy Ward, on 5 June 1754 at New Fairfield Congregational Church, New Fairfield, Fairfield Co, Connecticut; Performed by Ephraim Hubbell, JP.1 Josephus Vaughan died in 1795 at Missisquoi Co, Quebec.
Josephus Vaughan was definitely a Loyalist during the American Revolution. His estate or property was confiscated by the state of Connecticut in December of 1778, along with his brother Benjamin's.
Joseph supposedly endured many hardships and was said to have rescued sailors during a shipwreck, and after suffering exposure to cold, had a stroke and lost use of his limbs, along with having his speech greatly affected. Before he died, he lived with his sons, Josephus and Harmon, near Noyan.
