Zacheus Towner was born on 3 April 1729 at Wallingford, New Haven Co, Connecticut.1 He was the son of Samuel Towner and Amy Ward. Zacheus Towner married Sarah Vaughan, daughter of Benjamin Vaughan and Rose (?), in 1755 at New Fairfield, Fairfield Co, Connecticut; They lived on the northern part of New Fairfield, which is now Sherman.1 Zacheus Towner died on 14 February 1814 at Charlotte, Chittenden Co, Vermont, at age 84.2 He was buried at Barber Cemetery, Charlotte, Chittenden Co, Vermont; Zacheus was aged 85 years.3
Zacheus Towner represented New Fairfield in the General Assembly in the years 1771-2, 1774 and again in 1790-1. He removed to Charlotte, Vermont in 1793 and was involved with surveying and work around the area of Lake George. He was adamant about the education of his children, and four of his sons graduated in medicine.1
