Jonathan Wait

     Jonathan Wait was born on 7 January 1743 at Exeter, Washington Co, Rhode Island. He was the son of Samuel Wait and Sarah Greene. Jonathan Wait married Eleanor (?); It is suspected his wife may be named Eleanor, as there is an Eleanor buried next to Jonathan Wait, in Lots 123 and 124.¹ Jonathan Wait died on 2 July 1820 at New Lebanon, Columbia Co, New York, at age 77; It had to have occurred between 28 June and 12 July 1820. The date on his death comes from a memorial page on FindAGrave.com in New Lebanon, New York.²
     He appeared on the census of 1790 at Canaan, Columbia Co, New York.³ It would be interesting to locate descendants of this branch and see what other information has been uncovered (1996).⁴ He left a will on 28 June 1820 at New Lebanon, Columbia Co, New York; Unfortunately, there was no mention of his wife, who assumably had died between 1810 and 1820. Jonathan Wait gives two thirds of his property to his four sons, Henry, Dyer, Jonathan Phillips and Alva. The remaining one third was to be divided between his three daughters: Elizabeth, wife of George Franklin, and her five children; the children of his dau Polly Wheeler; Dau Rebeckah Washburn; and Nabby Mead.²
