James Augustus Longeway

     James Augustus Longeway was born on 29 March 1845 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ He was the son of James Covey Longeway and Isabella Park Hurst. James Augustus Longeway was baptized on 6 July 1845 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.² He married Jane Nelson on 7 December 1868 at Georgeville Congregational Church, Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec.³
      As of 1880, James Augustus Longeway was also known as Augustus J. Longeway.⁴ He appeared on the census of 9 June 1880 at Troy, Orleans Co, Vermont; He was enumerated as Augustus J. Longeway, 35, along with his wife Jane, born Scotland, 34, and Jenny 9 and Maggie E. 7.⁵ He appeared on the census of 22 June 1900 at Lunenburg, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; Augustus Longeway, 55 (Mar 1845), wife Jane, 58 (May 1842), had been married 32 years and had 3 children. Living with them was son Arthur, 18, (Nov 1881, VT), Marion E. Whitney, granddaughter, 6 (Dec 1893), Ezra A, 4 (Oct 1895), granddau Vera Longeway, 1 (Apr 1899), Jennie Whitney, daughter, 29 (Sep 1870), had been married 7 yrs, and was the mother of three children. His grandchildren were all born in Massachusetts.³
