     Samuel J. Wait Jr was born circa 1660 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island. He was the son of Samuel Wait and Hannah Whitman. Samuel J. Wait Jr married Alice Wightman, daughter of George Wightman and Elizabeth Updike, circa 1696 at N. Kingstown, Washington Co, Rhode Island.1 Samuel J. Wait Jr died before 15 April 1752 at Exeter, Washington Co, Rhode Island.1
     On 2 February 1685 Samuel Wait Jr was made a freeman [Rhode Island Colonial Records].
On 12 October 1694, James Sampson and his wife Hannah released their rights to a piece of land called "Little Silver" in Portsmouth sold by Samuel Wait Jr on 30 March 1693 to William Burrington. Hannah, was, of course, Samuel's mother who had remarried after the death of Samuel Wait Sr.
Samuel quit-claimed to his uncle Reuben Wait of Dartmouth the lands formerly belonging to his grandfather Thomas Wait on 21 April 1705. In 1709 he and others purchased 792 acres of vacant land in Narragansett. Following that, he conveyed land to his sons over the years.
He had been a member of the Six-Principle Baptist Church of Kingstown, which would today lie in North Kingstown. He had been one of the signers to a petition to the Association of Baptist Churches meeting in General Court in Connecticut 8 September 1729 requesting exemption from taxes [John Conners Diary - RI Hist. Society Coll. VIII, p. 84].
Samuel Wait's Will names his wife Alice, who was then aged 81, on 30 December 1747, along with sons Joseph, Samuel, children of deceased son Benjamin - namely, Virtue, Abigail and John - and son John.1 He left a will on 30 December 1747 at Newport Co, Rhode Island; Samuel's will names his wife Aylice then 81 years old, son Joseph land 200 acres where he now lives $50; son Samuel the west halfe of the homestead where he now has a house, children of deceased son Benjamin (d. 1745) Virtue, Abigail and John; money; Son John the east halfe of homestead and old part of House. Wife Aylice use of halfe of the house all indoor moveables and 18 pounds a year to be paid by John. Inventory and personal effects totaled 208 pounds 2 shillings.1
