Samuel Wait was born in 1640 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island.1 He was the son of Thomas Wait and Eleanor (?). Samuel Wait married Hannah Whitman circa 1659.1 Samuel Wait died on 2 February 1676/77 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island.1
Samuel Wait received his Narragansett lands from his father Thomas, and appears to have been of Narragansett as early as 8 March 1656, when he witnessed a deed between the Sachem Coginaquand to Richard Smith of land Potomovassett on 23 June 1662, he, aged about 22, testified about this deed.
On 23 July 1663 he was listed as one of the Inhabitants and Proprietors in Narragansett who petitioned to be under the jurisdiction of Connecticut.
On 20 May 1671 he relinquished any allegiance to Connecticut and took oath to Rhode Island. He was made a Freeman 6 May 1673.
Samuel Wait and his wife Hannah conveyed to his brother Thomas Wait the house and land in Portsmouth that he had received from his father's estate.
