William Covey was born on 12 August 1839 at Quebec.1 He was the son of John Young Covey and Roxana Hunter. William Covey has also be reported to have been born 12 August 1840 Quebec.2 He was baptized on 30 April 1841 at Russelltown Anglican Church, Russelltown, Huntingdon Co, Quebec; by William Bennett Bond. He married Fanny Adelia Wells.
William Covey married Susan G. Covey, daughter of Samuel Covey and Betsy C. McGee, on 21 December 1881 at Clinton Mills, Clinton Co, New York; Performed by Justice of the Peace, Patrick Mooney.3
William Covey died on 1 April 1922 at Ellenburg Depot, Clinton Co, New York, at age 82; Larry Baker had indicated he had cancer of the face. The obituary just mentions he had been a long time sufferer from cancer and the oldest resident in the community.3,4 He was buried on 3 April 1922 at Sheldon Cemetery, Ellenburg, Clinton Co, New York.4
He appeared on the census of 17 June 1880 at Ellenburg, Clinton Co, New York; Wm Covey, 39, widow, Melissa, 17, Wm H., 15, John, 12, Emma J., 10, Almeda, 6, Rufus, 4 and Fannie E., 5 mos., all born Canada.5 He appeared on the census of 13 June 1900 at Ellenburg, Clinton Co, New York; William Covey, 60, Susan G., 35, Harley, 14, Eunice L., 11, Ellsworth, 8, and William J., 56, his cousin.6 He appeared on the census of 21 January 1920 at Ellenburg, Clinton Co, New York; William, 78, and Susan, 65, were living with Ellsworth and his wife Maude P. The record shows he entered this country in 1861 and was naturalized. The family was residing on Canaan Road in Ellenburgh.7
