Mary Bate was baptized in January 1655 at Dorchester, Suffolk Co, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of James Bate and Ann Withington. Mary Bate married Samuel Hough, son of William Hough and Sarah Caulkins, on 18 August 1685.1
According to the church records of the Dorchester, when Mary Bate was baptised in 1654 or 1655, "her father being then [from] home gone, For England by waye of Virg[inia] - her Grand Father Elder Withington gave her a name".
