John Miles Tallman

     John Miles Tallman was born on 13 April 1841 at Franklin Centre, Huntingdon Co, Quebec.1,2 He was the son of Dexter Tallman and Hannah Jeandreau. John Miles Tallman married Lucinda Hewitt circa April 1864.3 John Miles Tallman died on 16 September 1927 at Cannon Corners, Mooers, Clinton Co, New York, at age 86; His obituary was quite long, mentioning born in Franklin Center, Quebec, moved to Cannon Corners when he was 12, helping to clear the land which would later become his home.
In 1861, he volunteered to serve, along with his brothers, James and George. When that time ended, he returned to marry Lucinda Hewitt, but two weeks later, he re-enlisted for another three years. He was discharged 1 Feb 1866 at City Point, Virginia. He then returned to Cannon Corners where he remained until his death.
He had been a member of the Cannon Corners Methodist church, as well as of the Mooers Grange. His wife had preceded him in death by seven years. John Tallman served his town as Justice of the Peace for 16 years, and "never had a decision reversed".
Left behind were three sons and three daughters: Wesley J. Tallman of Short Falls, NH; Anna and Charles of Manchester, NH; Mrs. Lowry Lamberton of Mooers Forks and Samuel and Ruth who cared for him in his declining years; Also two brothers: James tallman of Cheshire, MA and Thomas Tallman of Bartonsville, VT.4,5,2 He was buried at Union Cemetery, Mooers Forks, Clinton Co, New York.2,4
     He appeared on the census of 1880 at Mooers, Clinton Co, New York.6 He appeared on the census of 14 June 1900 at Mooers, Clinton Co, New York; John M. Tallman, 58, wife Lucinda, 55, along with children: Samuel D., 26, Alice L., 23, and Ruth L., 15. John's parents are listed as born Rhode Island and Canada (?).7 He appeared on the census of 13 May 1910 at Mooers, Clinton Co, New York; John M. Tallman, 69, Lucinda, 67, along with Anna, 43, Samuel D., 38, Allie, 33, and Ruthie 25.8
