     Matthew Rice was born circa 1629 at Berkhamstead, Hertford, England.1 He was the son of Deacon Edmund Rice and Thomasine Frost. Matthew Rice was baptized on 28 February 1628/29 at St Peter's Church, Berkhamstead, Hertford, England. He married Martha Lamson, daughter of Barnabas Lamson and Mary Liggett, on 7 July 1654 at Sudbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts.2 Matthew Rice died in 1717 at Sudbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts.
     He left a will on 14 October 1716 at Sudbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; His will was proved 30 December 1717. The will mentioned wife Martha; daughters Deborah Sawin, Dorothy Ware, Patience Leland; four (unnamed) children of Sarah Loker, deceased. Inventory £112.8.2 on 29 November 1717. Son, Isaac Executor.3
