     Emily J. Smith was born on 1 August 1820 at New York; The 1870 census shows she was born in New York, but her obituary states Vermont, as well as the 1885 state census for Minnesota.2,3,4 She was the daughter of Alpheus Smith and Katie Pickle.1 Emily J. Smith married Gilbert Tallman, son of Humphrey Tallman and Sarah Gilfillan. Emily J. Smith died on 14 April 1909 at Livermore, Humboldt Co, Wisconsin, at age 88; Her death certificate lists her parents.5 She was buried at Union Cemetery, Livermore, Humboldt Co, Wisconsin.3
     She and Gilbert Tallman appeared on the census of 9 May 1885 at Harmony, Fillmore Co, Minnesota; Gilbert Tallman, aged 68, b. Canada and Emily J. Tallman, aged 64, b. Vermont.6
