     Humphrey Gilbert Tallman was born on 10 November 1843 at Mooers Forks, Clinton Co, New York.1 He was the son of Gilbert Tallman and Emily J. Smith. Humphrey Gilbert Tallman married Esther Barnes Boyd in 1868 at Preston, Fillmore Co, Minnesota.1 Humphrey Gilbert Tallman died on 26 August 1924 at Whitehall, Trempealeau Co, Wisconsin, at age 80.1 He died on 26 August 1924 at Town Lincoln, Trempealeau Co, Wisconsin, at age 80.2
     An article concerning Humphrey's son, Algernon, in the "History of Trempealeau County Wisconsin" mentions that Humphrey Tallman was a native of New York state and had fought for the Union in the Civil War as a member of Company A, Sixteenth NY Cavalry, serving 18 months. After the War, Humphrey came to Hale township and engaged in farming. In 1904, he was said by this article to have retired to Whitehall.
Sheri Stuve [[email protected]] has documentation stating he enlisted 18 April 1854 and was discharged 21 Sept 1865, and that in 1895, Humphrey was living in York, WI.
Dawn DeMarco sent the author a copy of his obituary (no newspaper name listed). It mention she had one daughter and five sons by his wife Esther. "Two of the boys died in infancy". The obituary continues to say they lived in Hale, Trempealeau County until 1904, when they removed to Whitehall, where he lived until he died. His health had been fairly good until about year before his death - On the 24th of August, he suffered a stroke and he never recovered, passing away two days later. His funeral was held from the Baptist Church with the Rev. Bowen officiating. He began military service on 18 April 1854 at NY Cavalry Private Co. A 16th Regiment.2 He ended military service on 21 September 1865 at NY Calvary Private Co. A 16th Regiment.2 Land Patent records in Wisconsin show that Humphrey G. Tallman was issued 160 acres in Section 24 of Township 23, North of Range Seven West, Jackson County on 10 October 1871.3 He appeared on the census of 2 June 1880 at Hale, Trempealeau Co, Wisconsin; Humphrey G. Tallman, 36, Esther B., 36, Edith, 10, Danver, 8, and Algernon, 1. Edith and Danver had both had measles.4
