     Charles Gates Holt was born on 4 November 1822 at Quebec, Quebec.1 He was the son of Charles Adolphus Holt and Esther Emmeline Henshaw. Charles Gates Holt was baptized on 30 November 1822 at Quebec, Quebec.1 He married Margaret McPherson on 11 November 1848.2 Charles Gates Holt died on 4 October 1879 at Quebec, Quebec, at age 56; He was aged 56 years.3 He was buried on 7 October 1879 at Quebec, Quebec.3
     In 1864, Charles Gates Holt was a distinguished counsellor-at-law, and "a gentleman of the highest respectability" at Quebec. In February 1864 he was appointed one of her "Majesty's Counsel learned in the Law," and thus was entitled to wear the "silk robe."
