Rachel Maskel

Rachel Maskel was born on 10 August 1840 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. She was baptized on 11 June 1858 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.1 She married Chester Smith.2 Rachel Maskel married Jacob S. Wait, son of Ezra Wait and Hannah Kimmel, after 1865. Rachel Maskel died on 1 December 1914 at Manchester, Hillsborough Co, New Hampshire, at age 74; Obit from unknown newspaper, dated 18 Dec 1914, printed at St Johns:
THE LATE MRS. JACOB WAIT OF CLARENCEVILLE. Mrs. Jacob Wait, whose maiden name was Rachel Maskil passed away at the residence of her daughter, Miss Amy L. Wait, Manchester, N. H. on Dec. 1st, 1914. The late Mrs. Wait was taken seriously ill this spring and it was thought that she could not recover but she convalesced sufficiently to return to Manchester with one of her daughters, Mrs. Holbrooke, in the month of (can't read it). A few days before she died she had a severe attack of heart disease, which resulted fatally. Her remains were brought to Clarenceville on the 3rd and the funeral took place on the 4th from the residence of her son, Melvin Wait. The service was held in the Methodist Church and was conducted by the Rev. P. Pergah. The flowers, gifts, of friends were beautiful. Messrs. J.C. Cochrane I. Scott, Colby and Frank Young acted as bearers for the deceased who had reached the age of 75 years, three months and twenty-one days ! and nearly the whole of that long life, had been spent in this community. She was a good woman. Her husband pre-deceased her by ten years. Nine children mourn her departure namely Miss Amy L. Waite, Miss Bessie York, Mrs. Geneva Hollbrook, Mrs. Margaret Copeland, Mrs. Evelyn Spiller, and Mr. A.G. Wait of Manchester, Mrs. Jennie White of Goffstown, N.H., Mr. Jacob J. Wait of Sunset, Sask., and Mr. Melvin Wait on the homestead and with whom she resided. Two children died in infancy. She is also survived by eight sisters and brothers, vix. Mrs. Lydia cubit of Craftsbury, Mrs. Syvia Hazelton of Albany, V.T., Mr. William Maskel of Newport, Mr. Richard Maskel of Phillipsburg, Messrl Hinfy and Sylvanul Maskil of Alburg Springs, Mrs. Jane McGregor and Mr. Thomas Maskil of the parish of Clarenceville. The interment took place in the family lot in the Protestant Cemetery.2 She was buried on 4 December 1914 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.2
