     Josephus Vaughan was born on 16 June 1766 at New Fairfield, Fairfield Co, Connecticut. He was the son of Josephus Vaughan and Rebecca Towner. Josephus Vaughan married Elizabeth Hawley, daughter of Reuben Hawley and Rachel Hurd, on 12 March 1797 at Quebec. Josephus Vaughan died on 13 February 1846 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec, at age 79.1 He was buried on 15 February 1846 at Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Witnesses were Amos H. and Reuben H. Vaughan, his sons, and his nephew, Benjamin Vaughan.1
     Josephus Vaughan was a Loyalist, and removed to Noyan about 1804, establishing the very first ferry to cross the Richelieu River at Lacolle. He also ran a tavern. "In 1925, the landmark where Vaughan's Ferry crossed was named `Remember Point' in memory of Remember Baker, who was one of the Green Mountain Boys, under Ethan Allen". Remember was beheaded by the Indians there.
