George Colgan

M, b. circa 1875, d. 10 December 1948
George Colgan was born circa 1875 at New York. He married Emogene Covey, daughter of William Covey and Fanny Adelia Wells, after 1909. George Colgan died on 10 December 1948 at Clinton Co, New York; George Colgan disappeared while working on a wooded area belonging to Ralph Spoor in Clinton on 10 Dec 1948. Ralph Spoor and his son left him working in the late afternoon to attend other chores. About four later they returned and he was gone, and never returned home. Searches proved fruitless. Two years later, following the death of another person, sheriffs interviewed two men in prison charged with that crime and awaiting hanging. One man, Gervin Patneaude, originally told the Sheriff that they had picked up the man, gave him a ride, had a few drinks, robbed him of $75, killed him and dumped his body in a brook. His lawyer later told him not speak to the authorities about this crime. The other man questioned, Kenneth Bevin, said he didn't know Patneaude at that time, but it was confirmed they had been friends for years. The article states the Sheriff was going back to speak with him again but this writer can find no later account of the story in 1950.1
