Mahala Derick was born circa 1856 at Quebec.1 She was the daughter of William Derick and Clarinda Scott. Mahala Derick has also be reported to have been born circa 1859.2 She was baptized on 9 February 1879 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; Her baptism mentions her father, William Derrick, late of Clarenceville, now residing in the town of Burke in New York, and his wife Clarinda Scott. Mahala was said to be aged 20 years.2 She died in 1923 at Connecticut.3
She appeared on the census of 7 June 1880 at Waterbury, New Haven Co, Connecticut; Mahala, 18, was a servant in the household of Levi Bolster, along with her sister Annette.4
